Hanmer Baths
Sir,—Having been a regular attender at the Hanmer baths since I was a child, 1 was most surprised when, because the pool is now supposed to be too hot for young children, I was ordered to take my three-year-old daughter out of the hot pool which she had been in about 10 minutes, and sit her in a nearly cold shallow pool in a very chilly wind. As she became most distressed and blue with cold, we were forced, to leave the pool. She and other small children had been in the pool for up to an hour in the morning without any comment. Needless to say, none of the other children ■ could brave the cold pool, either. It appears to be a different story in the men’s baths, where my son and other three-and-four : year-olds are permitted to stay in at their father’s discretion.—Yours etc., MYSTIFIED. August 17, 1964.' [The acting medical superintendent of the Queen Mary Hospital,' Hanmer Springs (Mr- T. C. Maling) replies: “If ‘Mystified’ would advise the date, the matter can be investigated.”]
