A Cure For Nail-biting

(N.Z. Press Association —Copyright?

LONDON, Aug. 25. Courting is a cure for teenage nail biters, says the “Daily Herald.” Boys and girls who failed their exams became “addicted” to biting their nails. The boys usually gave up when they started going out with girls, said a former school medical officer, Dr. Hubert Weir, in the “Medical Officer." After the stresses of primary school leaving examinations, the youngsters went on biting their nails during their first year at secondary schools. When they realised they were not destined for high academic qualifications, many stopped, he said.

They began again during their final year when faced with uncertainty about getting a job. Dr. Weir had made a survey of 8000 school children. He

said punishment for the habit was useless. Most people grew out of it In their late teens.
