SINGAPORE TRADE

Ban On British Contemplated (N.Z.P.A.-Reuter—Copyrlght) SINGAPORE, August 25. Singapore, will wait “a little while, not long” before imposing its contemplated ban on the import of certain British goods, an official of the Finance Ministry said last night. The Singapore Finance Minister (Dr. Goh Keng Swee) announced yesterday that he proposed to ban certain British goods, which he did not name, if the British Board of Trade “maintains its present obdurate position and refuses to negotiate” on its restrictions on imports of Singapore-manufactured cotton goods. Such a ban could be escalated to a total prohibition on British imports, he added. The British Board of Trade is quoted as saying it wants a “reasonable” settlement of the matter.
