FORECAST TO MIDNIGHT Situation. —A ridge of high pressure is moving away to the east of New Zealand and a depression in the central Tasman Sea is advancing south-eastwards towards the country. Forecast: Canterbury.—Light, variable winds; high cloud increasing during the day, with some rain in the alps; mild afternoon temperatures. Marlborough and Nelson.—Light to moderate northerly winds predominating; cloud increasing, with occasional rain developing in Nelson in the afternoon and spreading to Marlborough later; temperatures milder. Buller and Westland.—Light to moderate north-easterly winds; partly cloudy at first; becoming overcast in the afternoon, with occasional rain; moderate temperatures. Outlook all districts: unsettled.
