STRUCK BY RAIL-CAR
Truck Caught By Barrier
Held by an arm of the barrier at the Riccarton road railway crossing, a truck was rammed by a Rangiora-bound railcar about 5 p.m. yesterday. No-one was hurt.. The truck and the rail-car were damaged. The truck belongs to Bowmans, Ltd., engineers, of 74 Main South road. ' Because of the damage, one of the two units of the rail-car had to be left at Riccarton. It was brought into Christchurch on the rail-car’s return run. Road traffic was diverted because of the accident, inward vehicles to Mandeville street and Harakeke street and outward traffic to Railway terrace and Deans avenue.
The rail-car will probably be repaired today. A spokesman for the Railways Department said that an. air pipe was broken, and some panel beating would also be needed.
