Not Able To Cut Betting Time Limit
The Totalisator Agency Board cannot at present reduce the win and place offcourse betting minimum of an hour and a half before the starting time of the race concerned or the doubles minimum of two hours before the starting time of the first leg. This was stated by the chairman of the T.A.8., Mr W. H. Roche. The T.A.B. has been conducting a trial since May to see if off-course bets could be accepted at a later time than at present. The trial provided for a delay of 15 minutes in sending win and place investments and 30 minutes for doubles betting to the racecourse totalisators.
Mr Roche said that during the trial complaints had been received from racing and trotting clubs about the iate arrival of the figures.
The delay in sending the figures to the course caused many on-course bettors to be misled, Mr Roche said. The prices on display on-course bore little or no resemblance to the actual dividends paid in many cases until the offcourse investments were incorporated.
