N.Z.R. BUS TERMINAL
Changes To Interior
Improved passenger facilities and offices for the Railways Road Services bus terminal in Victoria street are planned. Tenders have been called and it is hoped to have the work done in time for Christmas traffic. Only the interior of the present building will be altered. There will be new passenger and parcel facilities, a new booking office and waiting rooms, and a new lavatory block. Offices for the clerical staff will be built along the Victoria street frontage. There will be a new concourse and the public area will be heated by a gas boiler. The bus accommodation will not be altered. The only exterior alteration will be new windows in the Victoria street wall. The present windows have no provision for ventilation and will have to be replaced. The public entrance will remain in Victoria street.
The Railways Department took over the building from Todd Motors in 1945 and there has been no major alteration since.
Architects for the alterations are Messrs W. H. Trengrove, Trengrove and Marshall.
