Canada’s birthrate in 1963 was the lowest since World War 11, and the marriage rate was the lowest for several years.
The Dominion Bureau of Statistics reported that there were 468,000 births during the year. This is slightly lower than in 1962 and 9000 fewer than the record established in 1959. The birth rate, which was more than 28 per 100,000 of population in 1957, dropped to below 25 in 1963.
There were 131,000 marriages in 1963, which was almost 2000 more than in 1962, but the marriage rate in relation to population dropped one-tenth of a point
