HAWTHORNE INJURED
May Miss Two Rep. Games
The Nomads left-back, A. Hawthorne, will probably miss Canterbury’s final two senior representative soccer matches this season, against Wellington on August 22 and Otago the following Saturday.
Hawthorne was taken to hospital with a suspected fractured ankle during Canterbury’s match against Nelson last Saturday. It is now thought the injury is strained ligaments which may prevent him playing for the rest of this month.
The two Western forwards, D. Torkington and D. Bussey, who were both injured in the same game, are doubtful for the fourth round games in the O'Briens tournament next Saturday. Bussey pulled a thigh muscle and Torkington injured his knee. At one stage in the game at Nelson, Canterbury had only one fit forward. The New Brighton professional, E. Taylor, had to drop to half-back, the City right-wing was off the field with cramp, and only the High School Old Boys’ captain. P. Kay. was uninjured in the attack.
