Four Diamond Rings Taken

HASTINGS, Aug. 4
Michael John Donoghue stole four diamond rings and other property to a total value of £577 from a house in Middle road, Havelock North, yesterday, Mr W. A. Harlow. S.M., was told today by De-tective-Sergeant H. Baldock Donoghue, aged 21. seaman, of Hastings, pleaded guilty to a charge of breaking and entering a dwelling with intent to commit a crime.
The Magistrate convicted Donoghue and remanded him in custody for a probation officer's report and sentence on Thursday.
Mr Baldock said in explanation. Donoghue had said he and a friend had been at a party in Havelock North when they offered to go to a nearby dwelling to telephone a taxi.
Donoghue had found nobody at home and looked around for “something to steal,” said Mr Baldock. He was wanted on a warrant for ship desertion.
