GRANTS FOR RESEARCH
McClelland Trust
The Robert McClelland Trust Board recently decided to make grants amounting to £lB5O to certain organisations for research into cancer. The Medical School of the University of Otago will receive £700; the North Canterbury Hospital Board, £450; and the British Empire Cancer Campaign Society. £7OO. These payments became available under the will of the late Robert McClelland, a retired farmer, who left the residue of his estate on trust so that income was available for research into the cause and cure of cancer. The value of the assets comprising the capital of the trust is approximately £66,000 and the total income distributed since the inception of the trust in 1955 is now about £14.950.
The trust board comprises the medical superintendent of the North Canterbury Hospital Board (Dr. L. M. Berry), the chairman of the Ellesmere County Council (Mr W. E. Walker), and the District Public Trustee in Christchurch (Mr K. H. Readman).
