First Use Of Cable
(N.Z. Press Association) AUCKLAND, July 20. Oil-filled cable will be laid in New Zealand for the first time on an underground link between two Auckland Electric Power Board substations next month. Special technicians from Australia will assist in laying the 14.500 yards of cable. Some of the joints are complex and take up to 60 pours to complete. Oil-filled cable, which was pioneered in Britain, is smaller and moire easily handled than the oil type of cable which uses paper for insulation.
