COLLECTION OF ARTIFACTS
Okains Bay Buyer One of the finest privatelyowned collections of Maori artifacts in the country—the Maori section of the Chapman Museum at Dargaville—has been bought by Mr M. Thacker, of Okains Bay. Mr Thacker said that the collection consisted of some 1000 pieces including tikis, adzes and combs. He would hot disclose the purchase price. Mr Thacker, who spent five days recently in Dargaville, will add most of the collection to his already large museum at Okains Bay. Some pieces will be re-sold. The former owners, Mr and Mrs S. E. Jackson, had hoped to dispose of it as one collection and to keep it in the district, but after it had been on the market for several months at £5OO, they decided to sell the Maori section—the largest and best part—separately. The sale was made only a few days after two donations had been given to the Dargaville Borough Council to buy the collection for the borough.
