The groomsmen, Vitalijs Bucens and Janis Komsars, were also Latvian-born. The guests also came from many lands. The groom was a foundation member of Students International at Auckland University six years ago and was chairman of the club last year. The couple met in Tokyo last year when Harijs was on a holiday to South-east Asia and Japan. He spent three months in the Japanese capital and there met Shizuko who was working in a bank.
