On a hard and fast ground, the touring New Zealand Maadi Cup hockey team defeated a strong Bun daberg side by 4 goals to 2. Most of the game New Zealand dominated play, but on occasions was hard pressed to keep its goal intact. Scorers were Paris (2), Kilmartin and Laing. ‘ A goal early in the second half enabled Maryborough to defeat New Zealand by 3 goals to 2. The fast and exciting game was played . before a record crowd of 600 people. For New Zealand goal scorers were Paris and Laing.—Gympie (Queensland), July 20. Third Successive Year Britain's Mike Hailwood, fastest man in motor-cycle racing, today won the world 500 c.c. championship for the third successive year. He clinched the 1964 title In the West German Grand Prix at Stuttgart, the seventh race in the 12-raoe championship series. With an aggregate of 40 points, Hailwood, the 24-year-old son of an Oxford millionaire, has an unbeatable lead.
Another British rider; Phil Read, is second with 17 points, and Australian Jack Ahearn is third with 12.—Stuttgart, July 19.
