DIAMOND WEDDING CELEBRATION TODAY
Mr and Mrs E. S. Brittenden, of 44 Fisher avenue, Christchurch, will celebrate their diamond wedding anniversary today with a dinner party with their family. On Saturday they will have a larger gathering with relatives and friends. The couple were married at St. Mark’s Church, Opawa, by the Rev. P. J. Cocks, on July 21, 1904. Mrs Brittenden is the daughter of the late Mr and Mrs C. Gasson, of Opawa.
Mr Brittenden worked for the Railways Department for 40 years, in Christchurch, Wellington, Dunedin and many Canterbury towns. He retired in 1939 after being district traffic manager in Christchurch for seven years. The parents of seven boys —. .it was good fun bringing up seven sons,” Mrs Brittenden said—the couple also have 23 grandchildren, and six great-grandchildren. Mr and Mrs Brittenden are both aged 82 years.
