BASKETBALL AT ASHBURTON

Representative Matches Played Canterbury beat Ashburton by 43 goals to 29 in a senior representative basketball match played in Ashburton during the week-end. Ashburton won a representative match against Canterbury Sub-associations by 21 goals to 19. Canterbury scored in the first minute of play against Ashburton, .but Ashburton quickly drew level and play was fairly even for the first 20 minutes. The excellent goal shooting of Ashburton’s H. Bruce was a feature of play, and she was ably supported by B. Brown. Canterbury’s ball handling and positional play was superior to that of Ashburton although D. Penman, of Ashburton, made ,P. Edmonds, of Canterbury, keep on her toes.

D. Sampson played a good steady game and the defences worked very hard against Canterbury’s goalies. Final score: Canterbury 43, Ashburton 29.

Canterbury Sub-associations’ forwards had difficulty in getting the ball through the strong Ashburton defence . M. Hocking made some timely interceptions and was assistea by J. Gluyas and A. Turton. J. Kircher was unfortunate with her goal shooting but Ashburton held their lead and won, 21-19.
