Planes Touched So Stayed The Night

AUCKLAND, July 19.

Two international airliners were delayed overnight as a result of an accident on the ground at Whenuapai late on Saturday afternoon.

A Canadian Pacific Airlines Britannia was starting to taxi away from outside the terminal before take-off for Nandi, at 5.30 p.m. when the left wing tip touched the ta:’ cone of a Pan American Airways DC7C which was standing by the terminal. Both aircraft suffered slight damage and were withdrawn for repairs. The P.A.A. aircraft was also due to leave for Nandi at 6.30 p.m. and many of the passengers from both flights went to Nandi later by a Tasman Empire Airways Electra which left at 8.30 p.m. The Britannia was repaired overnight and left at 8 a.m. today for Honolulu with 37 of the original 52 passengers.

P.A.A. brought its reserve aircraft into use and it also left at 8 a.m. for Nandi and Samoa.
