16-6 WIN TO AUCKLAND
Full-Back Has Fine Debut
(N.Z. Press Association) AUCKLAND, June 30. After an indifferent game of Rugby, Auckland defeated Counties at Papakura today by 16 points (two goals, a try and a penalty goal) to 'six (two penalty goals). Auckland led, 8-6, at halftime.
Neither side settled down to play constructive Rugby, mainly because the line-outs were untidy and the scrums usually produced a penalty to one side or the other.
Counties started in lively fashion, but Auckland gained some control after about 25 minutes and at least deserved its win. The Counties front row— I. M. Rasmussen. B. E. McLeod and P. Rich—gave the Auckland scrum a lot of trouble, and L. G. Learning the second five-eighths, did well with few chances. For Auckland, L. Williams, the full-back, had a fine debut. He was particularly sound, quite often fearless facing the tigerish forward rushes and he kicked, both for line and goal, with accuracy. T. W. Johnson scored two tries, R. J. Patterson one and Williams converted two and kicked a penalty goal for Auckland. K. McMillan, the New Zealand Colt, kicked two penalty goals for Counties.
