STUDENTS REFUSED
Observers For I.U.S.
(From Our Own Reporter) WELLINGTON, June 30. The four delegate* refused entry to New Zealand to attend the International ' Student Conference, at Christchurch were not' coming as representatives of the countries o£ which they held passports, but as observers for the,lnternational Union of Students whiclf has headquarters In Prague. One of the delegates was .debarred from entering his own country, it was learned from official sources in Wellington tonight. The Government is believed 1 to * have reaffirmed the departmental recommendation not to allow the delegates into New Zealand. The Christchurch conference last *eek instructed New Zealand delegates to press for the admission of the Prague observers. As a result of representations from the New Zealand delegation, the Prime Minister (Mr Holyoake) asked the departments concerned to reexamine the cases of these delegates. It is said that the visas were refused not because of where the delegates came from but as « result of information concerning their activities . received in the investigation of the individual cases.
