Chairman Of Council

(N-Z. Press Association) WELLINGTON, June 30. Professor. F. W. Holmes has tendered his resignation as chairman of the Monetary and Economic Council because of pressure from other professorial duties. This was announced today by the Minister of Finance (Mr Lake). Professor Holmes was appointed chairman of the council at .its inception in 1961,. said.Mr Lake, and his leadership . during early years of the council’s existence has provided a firm foundation for its success. “The reports of the council are now accepted throughout the country as independent summaries of the economic situation free of any political bias, and I am personally very sorry that his work at Victoria University has made it necessary for • Professor Holmes to resign,” he said. Professor Holmes has recently been on . sabbatical leave. During his absence Mr E. D. Wilkinson, of Auckland, has been chairman and will continue to act in the meantime.
