AN AFRICAN PRESS
Hope Of Kenya Minister (N.Z.P.A.-Reuter) NAIROBI (Kenya). It was essential that African journalists be trained to build up an independent press to project the African personality to the world, Kenya’s Minister for Education (Mr Otiende) said in Nairobi. The Minister said that he looked forward to the time when trained African journalists would run an Africanowned press; At present, although some Africans were being promoted in journalism, most of the newspapers were owned by foreigners and headed by expatriates. “With independence we naturally want to see our people in responsible positions in the press of our continent,” the Minister said.
