Conspirator Fancied For Second Leg Today

(N.Z. Press Association)

WELLINGTON,June 29. That’s That runs her final trial for the Whyte Handicap in the Dr. Simmons Memorial at tomorrow’s EgmontWanganui Hunt meeting and she has good prospects of arriving at Trentham on Saturday a last-start winner.

The Simmons is the first leg of the T.A.B. double, which might be completed by Conspirator, whose form is better and more consistent than the large but moderate field he faces in the Patea Hack Handicap. That’s That was a fair third last start to Croydon’s Gold and Return Fare at Awapuni. Before that she finished a nose and a short neck behind Udare at Wanganui. Those races were over six and a half and seven furlongs. Tomorrow’s distance is a mile, which will be more suited to her late-run style of finishing.

Bright Coral, considered more a middle-distance horse than a miler, ran well enough over seven furlongs at Egmont to give himself prospects.

Acis, racing on his home track, is the top-weight with 8-13.'This, because of a lower scale, is nine pounds less than he carried at his last start.

Dr. Jekyll, beaten half a head by King’s Cove at Egmont, usually races well at Wanganui, and Good Samaritan, another local runner, is more solid since he started hurdling. The rest of the field is a mixed bunch of sprinters and middle-distance horses without good form. Classic Winner

A notable acceptor is this year’s New Zealand St. Leger winner, Clayton King, trying for the . third win of his career. Ten days ago he was beaten by only two noses over a middle distance at Egmont. On the same day at Egmont Conspirator ran third over the same course. He had won earlier at the meeting and before that had run first and second over hurdles, which adds up to form superior to that of most of his opponents in the Patea Handicap. Kamina ran • second to Triple Bel at Hastings on Saturday, and though the margin was' nearly two lengths she was beaten by a horse in exceptional form. If she runs as well again she will be hard to beat Akubra disappointed when he started sec-

ond favourite to Triple Bel on Saturday, but with a furlong less to run he might improve.

April Love found 11 furlongs too far for her on the first day at Hastings, and the lower class and shorter distance will suit her. Autumn Haze won a maiden mile by five lengths at her last start, and though maiden form is frequently unreliable, the ease of her win gives her a better chance than many of her older opponents.

The feature race is the Hunt Club Steeplechase. Six of the runners are bound for Trentham at the end of the week, but the likely winner is not one of these. He is Flying Swift, winner of his last two starts over country and a member at the leading ownertrainer, Ivan Robinson’s stable.

The on-course double is on the Hack and Hunters’ Hurdles, and the Mcßae Memorial, an amateur riders’ race. Copper Fair should win the hurdles, and Nightmill is chosen in the second leg. The track should be good.
