GIRL ON WAY TO N.Z.
Fiance Killed In England (N.Z. Press Association) WELLINGTON, June 29. A 17-year-pld girl on her way to New Zealand in the Southern Cross, which arrived this morning at Wellington, heard by radio telephone of her fiance’s death at Gray's Essex, England. The fiance, Mr George Monk, aged 22, was stabbed to death during a dance hall brawl between “mods" and “rockers.” He had been planning to come to New Zealand by air next month. The girl. Miss Barbara Fleet, was coming to New Zealand with her father, mother and sister. “The tragedy is that we are still receiving letters and mail,” said Mr Fleet. “When my daughter received word she was wanted on the radio telephone, she thought George was calling her.”
