JOBS FOR YOUTHS
End-Of-School Competition
(N.Z. Press Assn.—Copyright) LONDON, June 29. The Government has ordered a nation-wide drive to keep thousands of school leavers out of the dole queue. In the next few weeks at least 400,000 young people will be joining a record end-of-school rush for jobs. Last year, when Christmas was cut from the school leaving calendar, children were given the choice of leaving at Easter or at the end of the summer term. Parents in some areas were urged to keep their children at school until summer, and the response was 50,000 above the expected figure. These youngsters will now join normal leavers in the hunt for jobs. About 2000 youngsters who began their search last Easter are still looking.
