Goodbye To N.Z.
When the Port Invercargill sailed from Lyttelton for London on Saturday evening, her master, Captain W. C. Eastoe, said good-bye to New Zealand. This is his last voyage.
His seafaring career began 47 years ago when he was apprenticed to the Port Line.
Holder of an extra-master’s certificate, Captain Eastoe has commanded a number of the company’s vessels. His home is in Norfolk, England. For his final voyage he has his wife aboard. There were 10 passengers.
In addition to refrigerated and general cargo, the Port Invercargill has the trotter Young Dieman aboard. The horse is bound for Wales to be raced by the syndicate which is promoting the sport in Britain.
