250 PREFECTS AT DANCE
Leaders Of 25 Schools
An elite band of young people, the 250 prefects of about 25 State and private post-primary schools in Christchurch, Rangiora, and Lincoln, held a dance in the Burnside High School assembly hall op Saturday evening. These prefects now have a council of their own consisting of the head boys and head girls of each school. The council meets from time to time to discuss inter-school activities in which much of the organisation is undertaken by prefects. Saturday’s function was organised by the council with Brian Hitchon, chairman of the council and head boy at Burnside, and Mary Travers, head girl at Burnside, as hosts. A large mural depicting figures from school crests was a feature of the decorated hall.
Burnside girls provided a “floor show” of rapid tumbling and gymnastics. Invited guests were the principals of all the schools, with their wives.
