LOGS FROM EYREWELL
Conical Hill Sawmill (Parliamentary Reporter) WELLINGTON, June 28. Arrangements are being made for Conical Hill sawmill to take up supplies of logs from Eyrewell forest during the period of salvage operations at that forest, said the Minister of Forests (Mr Gerard) in Parliament. He was replying to Mr J. B. Gordon (Govt., Clutha), who had asked what proportion of the mill’s output would be taken up by this change. “These supplies will provide the major part of the mill’s input and will replace supplies from existing clearfelling operations in forests in the Tapanui district,’* Mr Gerard said. “The" mill will continue to take log supplies from, thinning operations associated with essential silvicultural work being carried out in local State forests. The purpose of this arrangement is to make a maximum contribution to the salvage of Eyrewell forest to meet the disastrous situation there.” Alternative work will be made available for Tapanui Forest Service staff normally engaged in clear-felling operations to supply Conical Hill sawmill.
