Linwood Too
In “The Press” last Wednesday the report of the unfairness of depleting the Christchurch and University Rugby sides for the final few games of the competition is quite justified. But it also brings another point into consideration. Linwood, since 1960, when it won the competition with Christchurch, has been in the top four teams every year since and yet its only representatives in the Canterbury A team have been McCormick, Stephen and Abel. Surely it has had other players worthy of a place or have all its tvins been flukes. The Linwood team, I know, would be very proud to give players of the calibre of B. Mason, an excellent prop, and P. Jellyman, a good clean centre, who can also kick (100 points to date) a chance of playing for Canterbury but unfortunately they just never seem to make the side. So don’t be too hard on Linwood; it would quite willingly give Canterbury half its team, if it had the opportunity. “GREEN AND BLACK.”
