STUDENTS’ CHARTER

AU Night Session

After battling through an all-night session to adopt their new charter, delegates attending the International Student Conference finally got to bed soon after 9 a.m. yesterday and slept most of the day. But while they slept, local organisers were busy transferring translator equipment and tables from the Horticultural Hall—which is required for a dance this weekend—to the Provincial Council Chambers and Hay’s theatrette where the commission sessions began last evening. These commission sessions will continue throughout today and tomorrow.. It was originally hoped that the charter would be completed by 4 a.m. yesterday but at that time, much still remained to be done and the conference decided to carry on. The professional interpreters, however, retired and their jobs were taken by a group of volunteers who bridged the language gap until 9 a.m.

On Tuesday evening, delegates will attend a final dinner to be given by the coordinating secretariat at the Brevet Club. Toheroa soup and whitebait will feature on the menu and there will .be an entree of venison. Canterbury lambs, kumaras and New Zealand cheeses will also be served. (
