Parliament’s Diary
Two bills Introduced in Parliament yesterday were the Bauxite Amendment Bill and the Mines Amendment Bill. Two private bills, the Church Property Trust (Canterbury) Amendment Bill and the Freemasons Trustees Amendment Bill each received a first reading. The annual reports of the Department of Agriculture and the Transport Department were tabled. A motion by Sir Leslie Munro (Gov., Waipa) on New Zealand aid to Southeast Asia was debated. The speakers were:
Government: Sir Leslie Munro, the Minister of Defence (Mr Eyre), the Prime Minister (Mr Holyoake), Mr G. A. Walsh (Tauranga), Mr D. Maclntyre (Hastings). Opposition: The Leader of the Opposition (Mr Nordmeyer), Mr W. Nash (Lower Hutt), Mr A. J. Faulkner (Roskill), Mr H. L. J. May (Porirua). The Minister of Finance (Mr Lake) presented the Budget in the evening.
