DAVIDSON NAMED
Squash Side For Aust.
The top - ranked Christchurch player, G. A. Davidson, has been nominated for the New Zealand squash rackets team to tour Australia in August.
The Christchurch women’s champion, Miss C. Swift, is a nominee for the New Zealand women’s team which is also likely to tour Australia this year. At the invitation of the national association, Davidson will attend the Wairarapa championships, to be held this week-end at Masterton. Three other nominees—P. Dibley and W. Deacon (Auckland) and J. N. Isaacs (Timaru) —will accompany Davidson. Two former New Zealand representatives from Timaru, G. L. Bird—No. 2 in 1963 team to Australia—and the left-hander, F. N. Coe, complete the South Island nominations. Bird land Coe will not play at Masterton, but they have recently returned from the Waikato championships at Hamilton.
The Masterton event and the South Island championships to be held next weekend at Timaru, will be the last tournaments before the team is announced. The selectors have been asked to hand the team to the New Zealand association before July 20. There will be no inter-island match this year.
