Heathcote Rates Rise Slightly
The Heathcote county general rate for this financial year will be 0.030125 d higher than last year, at 1.030125 d. The county’s water rate will be 0.3 d, the same as last year. Ratepayers who pay before September 25, however, will be given a rebate of 2J per cent on county rates (not including rates collected by the county for ad hoc bodies). The council approved the rates at a special meeting held in conjunction with its monthly meeting last evening. This was its first meeting at its new temporary offices in Whersteade road. Although the rates will not, technically, be struck until the council’s next meeting, all the councillors were present when the rating proposals were approved, and no objections were raised.
The general rate is entended to bring in £36,814, compared with a levy of. £33,520 last year. The water rate is estimated to bring in £lO,OOO. According to the estimates,
the council’s general funds will benefit by £5OOO during the year from its electricity undertaking, and by £B5O from its water department. The National Roads Board will contribute £28,400.
The major item of expenditure on the general account is an estimated £47,000 for works.
