EVANGELIST UNIT
£2OOB Raised
Towards Cost St. John’s Church had realised its aim of collecting £2OOO for a mobile evangelistic unit for Victoria Nyanza, Tanganyika, the vicar, the Rev. D. D. Thorpe, announced at the centennial social gathering of past and present St. John’s parishioners. The exact amount received towards the unit in centenary offerings stood, last night, at v £2OOB 13s lid, Mr Thorpe said. All offerings received from centenary services yet to be held would be added to this sum, he said. “I have been told it will cost us £2O to send the money,” he added, “and we don’t want to cut it short to pay the costs.” Congratulating St John's on their intention, the Bishop of Christchurch (the Rt. Rev. A. K. Warren) said: “It is an outstanding gesture to give this sum completely for others with no thought of benefit for yourselves. You are setting an example for the whole nation.”
