AIRCRAFT BONFIRE
(N.Z.P.A. -Reuter—Copyright) GENEVA, June 25.
The Soviet Union is prepared to accept a phased destraction of bombers provided the United States agrees in principle to destruction of all bombers.
This statement was made in Geneva yesterday by Mr Valerian Zorin, the Soviet Deputy Foreign Minister. This is the first time the Russians have said they would be prepared to agree to a phased destruction of bombers. They had previously insisted that all bombers should be destroyed at the beginning of the disarmament process. “We are trying to take into account our own proposal and that of the United States,” said Mr Zorin. “Once there is agreement in principle of the destruction of all bombers, we can proceed to establish the order in which they should be destroyed.”
