CITY RATE DEMANDS
February 24 Last Day
The City Council’s 1964-65 rates which were approved last Monday will reach ratepayers early in August, but they will have up to February 24 to pay them.
The rates have to be confirmed by the council at another meeting, and the demands will be dated August 10. They will be posted a few days earlier. This year the council will have to post 47,880 individual demands. In addition there will be rate demands for 2540 State rental houses. These are sent in district blocks to the State Advances Corporation.
The total amount to be collected by the City Council will be in excess of £2m. The exact amount has still to be worked out,. for the council knows its own rate but also collects for the Drainage Board and the Transport Board. Other ad hoc bodies also levy the council.
