FIGHT OR ELSE...
Nikora Gets I Itimatum
(N.Z. Press Association) AUCKLAND, June 18. Earl Nikora may not get a chance at Tuna. Scanlan’s British Empire middle-weight title if he fails to honour the July 6 non-title bout, Scanlan's manager, Mr Leon Tansey, said today. “If the fight goes as scheduled and it’s a good fight,” said Mr Tansey, “then we would be delighted to give Nikora a title fight outdoors at Carlaw Park next summer.
“If he doesn’t accept, then he will have to take the risk of us never giving him a title bout. It’s all over to him.”
The Nikora camp, since being informed the British Commonwealth and Empire Boxing Committee would recognise Nikora as a suitable contender, is pressing for a title bout on July 6. The Auckland association has asked the New Zealand council to hold Nikora to the articles signed for the July 6 fight.
