AIRPORT AIDS

Tenders For Buildings

A start has been made on the £400,000 navigational aid programme planned for Christchurch airport. The Ministry of Works is calling for tenders for two buildings to house the glide-path and localiser installations.

The Ministry, acting for the Civil Aviation Administration, has already invited selected firms to tender to get the job under way as soon as possible. Ryan Bros, have this week begun site clearance for the proposed buildings, of which there will be about a dozen scattered over the airfield.

The first two buildings will be of concrete and measure 16ft by lift and stand 9ft high. Several of the other proposed buildings will be of a similar size, although one or two will be considerably larger. Once the successful tenderer has been announced early next month, work is expected to begin almost immediately.
