Cyclamen Needing Water

Could you tell me the name of tills sample of shrub and say how It is propagated? I have tried cuttings, seed and layers but without success.—F.G.T. (Christchurch). The speclmen is a Cotoneaster, probably C. lactea. Propagation by seed would be easiest. Remove the seed from the berries and sow out of doors immediately: germination will take place during the spring. Could you recommend a number of really dwarf confers that would be suitable for a small rockgarden—"Alpine- Gardener." Junperus communis com pressa, Cryptomeria japonica vllmoriana, Chainaecyparis pisifera plumosa, aurea, adressa compacta, Thyua occidentails “Little Gem.” I had a cyclamen given to me for Mother’s Day which was very healthy and full of Rowers. As I write, however, the leaves are all turning yellow although the Rowers seem to be all -right. It is standing in a room that is centrally-heated so I do not think the trouble is due to the recent cold weather. A.E.W. (Cashmere). It is most likely that the plant is receiving insufficient water. Water should be given when the plant requires it and not at a flexed regular time In a warm room two or three times a week may be necessary Do not stand the plant in a saucer of water permanently. After watering pour away the excess water or fill the saucer with sand or gravel and stand the plant on that.

I have a large holly bush in the garden which always seems to flower in the autumn . (specimen enclosed). Other holllqs that I have, seen usually Rower in the spring and I have never -noticed that any others are scented like my

bush. Is .this late' flowering the reason why It never berries, or Is my holly a different species from that - most commonly grown?— “Curious”-(Riccarton). The specimen enclosed Is not a holly but is Osmanthus iliclfolius.
