Tactile Back From Aust.

"The Press" Special Service INVERCARGILL, May 28. Tactile, last season’s champion three-year-old pacer, arrived back in Southland during the week after being campaigned in Australia where the Hal Tryax horse met with mixed fortune. Tactile was an Inter-Dom-inion heat winner at Adelaide in February and finished third in the Grand Final. He later broke a pedal bone in a foot and has been under veterinary attention since. He has not shown any signs of lameness for four or five weeks. The injury is not uncommon among horses racing on the saucer like tracks in Australia —another Southlander in Robin Dundee suffered a similar injury on the same Australian campaign as Tactile and she too is making a complete recovery. If X-rays of Tactile’s injury are satisfactory, he will be put back in work about August, with a view to being prepared for the next New Zealand Trotting Cup and the Inter-Dominion Championships at Dunedin next February.

“It is unlikely that he will serve any mares next spring,” one of his part-owners, Mr A. J. Dynes, said yesterday. “If he recovers as we expect, and I don’t think there is any doubt that he will, he will certainly not stand at the stud.”
