TROTTING Tronso Could Win Again At Ashburton Tomorrow

Tronso created a good impression when at her first start at a totalisator meeting she outclassed her rivals at Washdyke on May 16. She will have a great chance of repeating that success in the two-mile Allenton Handicap on the first day of the Ashburton Trotting Club’s winter meeting tomorrow.

Tronso, which is trained at Ashburton by C. A. White for Mrs E. Jamison, is a five-year-old mare by Light Brigade from Bettagain, an unraced daughter of Desmond’s Pride and Betty Maxegin, the dam also of Mighty Hanover and Robert Medoro, two of the leading trotters of the current season.

Trpnso drifted early in her race at Washdyke, but once properly balanced she soon worked into a handy position. She strode to the front inside the last three furlongs and drew away for the easiest of wins. If she reproduces a similar effort tomorrow, she should be too good for most of her rivals. Milford Nurse was well beaten by Tronso over 14 furlongs at Washdyke. She meets her rival on 36 yards more favourable terms this time. This advantage still might not be sufficient to give her a winning chance, but she should at least be placed once again. Milford Nurse will be bracketed with Waihora Champ, which has no form to recommend his chances. Phenoma made up ground for fifth in the race won by Tronso at Washdyke after being pushed back in the early stages of the race. If she secures a more favourable run at Ashburton, she could be prominent at the finish. Ipiana trotted an improver’s race for third to Tronso and Milford Nurse at Washdyke, an effort which entitles her to consideration. She is a stablemate of Tibet, a winner at long odds at Addington last Saturday. The others on the front make little appeal; nor do the remainder on 36 yards with Phenoma, Hoana, Marcus Aurelius, Seven Nights and Way-

leggo are sound stayers on 72 yards. If the pace is easyearly, any one of them could race prominently. The double will be run on the Durbar Handicap and the Stewards’ Handicap, Squire and Mighty Chief forming a likely combination. Fair weather is forecast and the track will be easy. Fields, with form, for the doubles races are:
