J. D. WALSHE WITHDRAWS
League Team Change The Canterbury Rugby League inside centre, J. D. Walshe (Marist), will not play against Auckland on Monday. Walshe suffered a shoulder injury .in the match against Canterbury B on Sunday. The convenor of the selection panel (Mr R. K. Andrews) said yesterday that Walshe would act as a reserve against Auckland. Mr Andrews said that no replacement has been named so far but it is likely that another Marist player, P. E. Savage, will play. Savage has been training in Walshe’s position. Savage is playing in his first season of Rugby League. While serving with the Army in Malaya he played Rugby Union for Combined Services. In 1956 Savage played Rugby for Thames Valley juniors and in 1961 he represented South Island Maoris. He combines an elusive swerve and the ability to make a break for his wings with his own good turn of pace. Youth Forum.—The findings and recommendations of the New Zealand youth forum will be incorporated in a booklet.—(P.A.)
