BILLIARDS TITLE
Simons Scores Big Breaks The second round matches in the Canterbury amateur billiards championship were highlighted by breaks of 103, 79, 75, 67 and 49 by the present provincial champion, E. Simons. In his game with the former New Zealand snooker champion. R. Franks, Simons showed form that could win for him the national title, to be played in Christchurch in August. Franks, a most astute player when in form, found that his two years’ absence from competitive play was more than he could master in a brief game of 500-up. The under-rated player, E. Greaves, also showed many fine touches in compiling a break of 91. The most exciting games of the first two rounds have been olayed by the Woolston member, H. Mason. Against D. Mann he won by 14 points, and then he eliminated C. Kelly by two points. • Second round results were: Simons 500 <lO3, 79. 75, 67, 49), Franks 234; E. Greaves 500 191). E. Martin 376; Logan 500 <6B, 37), V. Choat 245; Mason 500, Kelly 498 (48. 32, 31); Kirk ness 500 (32, 37, 51, 43, 31). Carson 360; R. O'Callaghan 500 (71), P. Gouldihg 282 (48, 36); D. Collie 500, D. Aitken 366: Yesberg 500 (39, 38, 34, 31), N. Prince 371 (41, 32).
