GAOL FOR PARENTS
State Law On Illegitimacy (N.Z. Press Assn —Copyright) JACKSON, May 27. The Governor of Mississippi (Mr Paul Johnson) today signed into law a bill to make the parents of a second illegitimate child guilty of a misdemeanour and subject to a gaol sentence and fine. The bill attracted wide attention after the House amended it to permit parents to escape the penalties provided by undergoing voluntary sterilisation. The Senate took out the sterilisation provision and reduced the felony to a misdemeanour punishable by up to 90 days in gaol and 250 dollars in fines.
