OLYMPICS WANTED

N.Z. Plans To Apply (N.Z.P.A.-Reuter —Copyright) TOKYO, May 28. New Zealand was planning to apply for the, 1972 Olympic Games, said Mr W. Stevenson, New Zealand’s Olympic team manager, on a visit to Tokyo. Although the Soviet Union has expressed interest, no other country hitherto has made known its intention to seek the 1972 games, whose venue is not expected to be decided by the International Olympic Committee until 1967.

The defeated “candidates” when Mexico City was awarded the 1968 games last year were Buenos Aires, Detroit and Lyons.

If New Zealand does apply for the 1972 Olympics, the venue is expected to be Auckland. This city held the 1950 British Empire Games and has already embarked on preparations to hold the 1974 Empire Games.
