BETTER, BUT NOT ENOUGH
Wolves Fail To Hold Lead A much Improved Wolves team just failed to keep up the pace in the last period, and lost to Hawks by 5 goals to 6 in a Christchurch Cup ice hockey match played at the Indoor Ice Rink. W’olves had Hawks on the defensive for a large part ot the game, and built up a three goal lead just before the end of the second period. Then two quick goals by M. Hole brought Hawks back into the picture again, and the game developed into a grim struggle with no quarter asked or given. Wolves began to tire, and Hawks scored three more goals in fairly rapid succession. With the’ score at 6-4 Wolves put the puck into the Hawks net, but the goal was disallowed. This really set the Wolves onfire, and they attacked strongly and netted a few minutes from the end. The body checking on both sides was hard and after one check in the Wolves' defensive zone a fight broke out that finally involved more than half the players on the Ice. Three players were sent to the penalty box. and play continued, but there was no further score. Scorers were:—Hawks: N. Hole 2, B. O'Connor. B. Off ord, G. Bainton. J. McCarthy. Wolves: J. Wallis 2. P. Wright, S. Walters, B. Guy. The referees were Messrs B. Lester and B. Dando.
