DEFENCE OF CARTOONS
Issue Bv National J Party Unfortunately there was a section of voters in New Zealand who would look at pictures but would not read, said the Dominion president of the National Party (Mr J. S. Meadowcroft) at the annual meeting of the CanterburyWestland Division of the Party yesterday. This section, he said, were under-worked, over-fed and over-paid. Mr Meadowcroft said that he would take full responsibility for the colleagues who supported him in having National Party cartoons issued at the time of the last election. A man about 28 years old who patronised a Wellington dairy, he said, had on one occasion bought about 15s worth of comics for a week-end’s reading. The topic of National Party election cartoons was raised at the meeting by Mr B. L. Sanders of Ashburton, who questioned their suitability.
