35 TONS OF ICE A DAY
A fleet replacement programme with eight new allfreeze trawlers has been announced by one of the biggest trawling and fish processing firms in Britain. The company already has two all-freeze stern trawlers on order, the Ross Valiant and the Cape Kennedy. The Ross Valiant will have a fish room capacity of 22,000 cubic feet, which will be maintained at a temperature of about minus 20 degrees Fahrenheit. A battery of 10 freezing machines, capable of producing a total of 35 tons of frozen blocks every 24 hours, will enable her to freeze her entire catch—about 400 tons —while still at sea. She will be 226 ft 6in over all, says the British Information Service.
