VACANCY ON COUNCIL
One Nomination Received
One nomination has so far been received for the vacancy on the Paparua County Council caused by the recent death of the former chairman, Mr J. H. Weaver. The nomination is that of Mr E. C. Britnell, a garage proprietor, of Middlepark road. Mr Britnell is a member of the Sockburn County Town Committee.
If more than one nomination is received, a. by-election will be held in the Sockburn Riding on June 20. Nominations close on June 2.
The French Academy, which most Frenchmen regard as a senile old lady, has nevertheless shown that it can keep up to date. In its latest elections, Mr Louis Armand, engineering father of Euratom and also known as “Mr Channel-Tunnel,” was chosen to join the ranks of the “immortals.”—(Reuter).
