Faulty Records
Sir, —How much longer do we have to endure cracked records and records played at the wrong speed, etc., from 3YA station of the N.Z.8.C.? This happens daily at almost every record session. Is there no-one available to sort out the good records, from the cracked ones? Surely the speed at which they are to be played is clearly printed? These errors are extremely rare in England from the 8.8. C., and such inefficiency would not be tolerated anyway.—Yours, etc., DISGUSTED LISTENER. May 24, 1964. [Mr K. M. Hay, district manager for the .New Zealand Broadcasting Corporation, says: “Records are withdrawn or replaced as soon as faults become apparent, but it is .riot possible to check, in advance, all of the’hundreds of items broadcast each day from the four Christchurch stations. Comparisons with 8.8. C. practice are not valid because of the much higher proportion of records in N.Z.B.C. programmes. Records are occasionally started at the wrong speed: these slips are regrettable, and regretted.”]
